Edinburgh: And the winners are…

MOON

MOON

The jury have decided upon the winners of Edinburgh International Film Festivals. Once again the britspotting team had the right nose when presenting several of this year’s winning features and short films in the twelve competition categories…

MOON directed by David Bowie’s son, Duncan Jones, scooped the Michael Powell Award for Best New British Feature Film. MOON was already introduced within our 2009 film forecast in British cinema.

FISH TANK by Andrea Arnold whose RED ROAD and Academy Award winning short film WASP were screened successfully at britspotting was also rewarded. Leading actress Katie Jarvis picked up the PPG Award for Best Performance in a British Feature Film for her extraordinary debut. As we already mentioned FISH TANK won the Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

In the short film section, British director Emma Sullivan won the UK Film Council Award for Best British Short Film for AFTER TOMORROW, a taut, claustrophobic thriller with a surprising and extremely moving twist at the end.
