THE LAST THAKUR

A Contemporary Western in the Wilds of Bangladesh

Another film has been confirmed for britspotting 2009: the British-Bangladeshi western film THE LAST THAKUR by Sadik Ahmed.

A mysterious stranger armed with a rifle arrives in a remote Bangladeshi village to seek revenge for his mother who was raped and killed during war. In the course of his mission, he is used by the clash of the two rival leaders in the village: the Chairman, a powerful Muslim politician, and the local Thakur, a Hindu landlord. They both try to attract his attention and win him over.

THE LAST THAKUR is director Sadik Ahmed’s follow up to his award winning short TANJU MIAH and had its world premiere to a sold out audience at the London Film Festival. It is the first outcome of the initiative between the UK film distributor Curzon Artificial Eye and the National Film and Television School which gives recent students and graduates the chance to produce features and ensures their distribution.

THE LAST THAKUR features amazingly shot locations and great performances by Bangladesh’s finest theatre actors. The feature merges both oriental and occidental film elements and is definitely worth seeing!
