THE HIDE

THE HIDE

Everybody Has Something to Hide

britspotting is very proud to show you the thriller THE HIDE in this year’s festival programme.

Two characters and one location. Marek Losey’s first feature film shows how minimalistc films can have maximal impacts.

In the marshland of Suffolk, inhibited birdwatcher Roy (Alexander McQueen) is interrupted in his studies by the tousled, suspicious-looking stranger Dave (Phil Campbell). Despite mutual scepticism, they soon engage in lively conversations where they discover their similarities. However, their freshly formed friendship is put to an abrupt end when they hear about the police’s announcement to a manhunt for a local muderer. Just when we think we know who the murderer is – Roy or Dave – the plot twists, all expectations are defied and the viewer is left in the dark again.

THE HIDE is based on the stage play THE SOCIABLE PLOVER by Tim Whitnall, who also wrote the screenplay. Marek Losey, grandson of legendary filmmaker Joseph Losey, previously directed award winning advertisment campaigns for Cadbury, Coca Cola and Diesel. His debut, which was filmed on a very low budget, is a subtle thriller, shining with outstanding performances by Alexander McQueen (IN THE LOOP, this year’s opening film) and Phil Campbell in the lead. Stay tuned to the upcoming director’s future projects!
