britspotting presents: ALL TOMORROW’S PARTIES
ALL TOMORROW'S PARTIES
Another Sunny Day
Come and celebrate the music with us! britspotting 2009 will show you Jonathan Caouette’s documentary ALL TOMORROW’S PARTIES which captures the spirit of the ten-year-old correspondent cult music festival.
In 1999, the British indie pop band Belle & Sebastian initiated the festival – a counter movement to the big, commercial festivals - in an empty holiday camp by the sea in South England. Ever since, the event is curated by a different band or artist who gather together their own favorite artists, making the fest ‘the ultimate mixtape’, as Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore describes it. Musicians and fans spend the weekend camping together, performances take place on meadows or at the seaside. Lesser known bands live and perform alongside stars like Iggy Pop and Sonic Youth.
Jonathan Caouette has collected footage from over 200 fans, filmmakers and musicians themselves, with formats ranging from Super8 and camcorder films to mobile phone uploads. Altogether, the DIY concert documentary presents us a colorful and captivating portrait of one of the best-loved festivals, featuring stunning performances by Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, Patti Smih, Portishead, Nick Cave and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. ALL TOMORROW’S PARTIES is an innovative and truly unique piece of work which perfectly conveys the experience of attending a festival and makes you want to book a flight to England for next year’s festival immediately.
ALL TOMORROW’S PARTIES: November, 14 – 9:45 pm – Babylon
