Interview with Michael Lavelle

Michael Lavelle

Michael Lavelle

Michael Lavelle directed the OUT OF THE BLUE which is shown in britspotting’s Twisted short film series. OUT OF THE BLUE premiered at the Corona Film Festival last year where it was awarded the Audience Award for Best Irish Short Film and Michael Lavelle received a special mention in the best first-time Irish director award.

How was directing your very first film?

Michael: I have mostly worked as a cinematographer before. It was nice to direct and really work with the actors, but it was also difficult to step away from the camera as I have been working as a cinematographer for such a long time, 8 years.

Are you currently working on a any projects?

Michael: Yes, I am writing on a feature film called 6 HOURS which is set in Africa. I am not only doing short films. Next year, I’ll be directing a feature film hopefully. I really want to make both short films and feature films.

Which other films are you going to see at britspotting?

Michael: I will definitely see the Anniversary Shorts and as I met some other filmmakers here, I really want to go and see their films.
